About

Sydney Skye Rowswell is a contemporary painter working from her garden studio in the Bristol and Bath area. Sydney works predominantly in oil paints and her work depicts both human and animal. Working from photographs, oftentimes taken herself, Sydney combines lifelike elements from the real World with an imaginative and non traditional colour pallet, creating her contemporary style she calls Real(ish)ism.

Sydney says “People and animals are my jam, they’re endlessly fascinating to me. As a Mum, I’m especially interested in the connections within the family unit, including the animals we live with. Although my style is real(ish), I love to disrupt and abstract various elements plus use unnatural colour choices. Colour is a very important part of my work… and my life outside of work also. Colour seems to really impact my mood. I’m always excited to try new colour combo’s in AND out of the studio.

My style has evolved a lot in the last year and I am so grateful to have found a way of working that feels so right for me- I can’t get enough of it!”
